Welcome note: Malta Polyphenols 2009 Event

-

Dear Colleagues,

Following the success of the 4 past conferences on polyphenols applications, the International Society of Antioxidant in Nutrition and Health (ISANH) decided to organize a 5th meeting between experts in order to debate on the latest advances and controversies in the field of polyphenols.

The Conference Malta Polyphenols 2009 will be held under the patronage of the International Society of Antioxidants in Nutrition and Health (ISANH), the French society of antioxidants (SFA) and the Japanese Society of antioxidants (JSA).

The aims of Malta Polyphenols 2009 are to discuss the latest advances in polyphenols and health and highlight recent innovations, controversies and applications of polyphenols in nutraceutical, cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical products.

-
During Malta Polyphenols 2009, the Organizing Committee will allocate significant time to discuss the latest controversies relating to scientific studies concerning Polyphenols and its consumption. Concerning this field, many questions remain unclear: Bioavailability, stability, biomarkers, biological effect, molecular targets, metabolites efficacy, ...
-
The aims of Malta Polyphenols 2009 are to provide answers to give a future vision of how polyphenols can enhance human nutrition and help in the prevention and treatment of many chronic disease.

As Chairman of the Scientific Committee and President of ISANH, our aim is toHighlight some of hot topics concerning polyphenols applications in human especially stability, Bioefficacy and bioavailability, targets (particularly mitochondria) and biological effects. The major challenge will be to elucidate the effects of polyphenols metabolites (and not polyphenols) in human; we need urgently to undertake clinical studies with these metabolites. We must link health claims to real beneficial effects of consumers.  We will discuss also how to avoid speculations : Marketing must wait the scientific progress and evidences. One of the examples is Resveratrol. I’m very surprised that many products with Resveratrol available in the market with a magic claims; however we didn’t have any clinical studies and evidences of their efficacy in human.

Malta Polyphenols 2009 will target researchers and academic professors, R&D departments, clinical, pharmaceutical companies, food supplements companies, cosmetics companies, veterinary medicine companies, marketing departments, investors, start ups and all other stakeholders in the polyphenols industry.

-

Different topics & sessions will be held:

- Molecular effects and cellular targets of polyphenols

- Overview on health effects of polyphenols on Human

- Bioavailability of Polyphenols compounds

- Metabolomics and Polyphenols

- Innovations and Applications in Food and drinks Industries with focuses on Natural Polyphenols

During Malta Polyphenols 2009, a Satellite Symposium will be presented and dedicated to  Pomegranate Extracts : Clinical and Nutraceutical Applications.

In parallel, Antioxidants Future Trends and Innovations will be held,  dealing with cosmetics, nutraceutical and medicalized Food solutions will be held during the two days.

-

In parallel, a Business to Business session concerning novelties on Pomegranate products will take place on October, the second day.

-

A roundtable discussion with speakers and the Scientific Committee will be held at the end of the conference.
